As a practitioner of the Isochain for the last 2 years, to say I've been impressed is an understatement. The Isochain has forever changed my outlook on fitness training. My knees are the best they've ever felt and my chronic tennis elbow hasn't flared up since 2020 when I started using the chain. Fast forward 2.5 years and the developers/researchers in DD'S R&D department drop the IsoMax, the successor to the Isochain.
Quieter, more portable, easy to select numbered straps, rechargeable battery and more access to different exercises (chest press!) and we have one for the history books. This device is a must buy for anyone who is looking to develop not only functional strength, but with the right routine, peerless strength (think Alexander Zass and Bruce Lee who were both huge proponents of Overcoming Isometric training).
There have been products I've spent a couple hundred on in the past and have sorely regretted my decision. The Isochain and Isomax are not one of them! Highly recommend!
I began using the Isochain as my sole form of training last year. In my mid 40s I've put on muscle, gotten stronger and reduced my blood pressure. The Isomax is an upgraded version and because I can move through the exercises faster with the strap. It also taxes my cardiovascular system like a HIIT session. This system is revolutionary especially for those of us on the wrong side of 40 who still want to train without pain and injury. DragonDoor has outdone themselves with this product and I would recommend it to anybody without hesitation.
I have a relatively lean but still robust home gym. And I've tried just about every modality and program in the last twenty years of lifting. Nothing really compares to using isometrics with the IsoMax.
I know exactly what I'm trying to do each time I approach a workout and I know how it went each time I finished. There is nothing quite like quantifiable isometrics for basic strength and body composition work.
Other members of my family - mainly my wife and daughters - have taken to strength training because of the IsoMax.
If I had only one purchase for home workouts, I'd choose the IsoMax. Actually, if I were a member of a gym, I'd choose the IsoMax still. Can't speak highly enough of it.
I have had the Isochain for a few years and now have had the IsoMax for a few weeks. The Isochain is awesome so I was unsure I needed to upgrade to the IsoMax but Dragon Door has managed to improve an already awesome product. The adjustable strap is a HUGE upgrade over the chain, not only in the feel but in order to provide consistency from workout to workout I used duck tape to mark the chain links on the IC; now the strap is numbered and I KNOW exactly what # to use. The base plate is improved as well, it's lighter and doesn't bend even under max force. Top all of this off with a rechargeable handle and you have another winner from DD. If you are thinking about getting an IC or an IM stop thinking and get one! You won't regret either purchase but the IM is the clear winner for me.
Been working out since 1975. Started with a 45lb dumbbell and bodyweight calisthenics. Switched to kettlebells in 2008. Went with Convict Conditioning at the start of 2010. Added clubbells and maces a few years ago. It's all great but the Isomax has taken center stage. The combination of convenient, very effective isometric and seeing the amount of force generated on each rep is phenomenal. Dragon Door's innovations are a godsend. I'm 70 and the strongest I have ever been.
The Isomax is the ultimate king for building muscle and strength with isometric training. Everything else is merely supplemental.
This will change your efficiency in terms of how you train! I love this system and if you want to tone or grow muscle this is an excellent process through which to achieve results quickly. In 10-15 minutes you will have a complete workout and be on your way to a great physique. I highly recommend this game changing system!
I started out using the Isochain when it first came out years ago. I experienced both strength and hypertrophy gains almost immediately. Now, I'm using the IsoMax, and consider it the most effect form of isometrics available. it tracks strength output, for those of you who want to increase strength, and, for people like me, it produces maximum hypertrophy. In fact, measurable size gain with almost each session! It's as if training on performance enhancing drugs, but, at 60 years of age, I am natural for life, and still improving!
I cannot say enough about how easy it is to use this device to reach your goals quickly, and measurably with pinpoint accuracy.
There's nothing like it, the money is worth the investment. The IsoMax can be your only home gym, and you will still experience continuous gains.
The ISOMAX is a tremendous training tool for all populations; from youth/teens to former aging athletes and seniors who want to safely and effectively build strength.
Highly recommend the ISOMAX as another great tool in anyone's fitness program.
I have been a fan of isometric training for years. I just never had a way to quantify the results, until now. The Isomax gives you a number to shoot for and I love that challenge. I also love the fact that you can do a full body workout in under 30 minutes. Great product!!
I was introduced to the Isomax from watching Youtube. I have now owned it for a couple of months, and I have to say, I believe it is the best piece of training equipment I have ever owned. I have been able to gain more muscle mass and increased strength with the Isomax more than any free weights or weight machine has ever helped me. I am in my mid 40s and have been lifting weights since my late teenage years, but nothing I have tried compares to the Isomax! If you are on the fence in considering getting an Isomax, I would highly recommend it based on how it has helped me.
Excellent investment in your health. It is built to last for years. The company is very professional, and takes care of the customer! Very happy with my purchase.
Having been a Strength and Conditioning Coach for 40 years (33 years at the college level, 7 years at the high school level), I have seen a LOT of devices come and go. I purchased an IsoMax for a home gym where I am going to train people in my retirement. The IsoMax impresses me so much that I would definitely incorporate it into my program if I were starting all over again in my career. It'll definitely be a part of my new business. When I visit with young strength and conditioning coaches I ALWAYS make sure to encourage them to check out the IsoMax
As an avid fitness buff I've been into weights for decades. I've always tinkered with isometrics using a rack or even a wall at times. When I started my alternative journey to protect my joints I used bands and then discovered the Isochain and now this incredible convenience upgrade of the Isomax.
If you want to get stronger fast, this tool is incredible. If you want to build up endurance and VO2 Max fast, this tool is incredible
Iso (isometric training) was part of my training life here and there due to martial arts. But without real understanding it faded out for 2 decades. Than Convict Conditioning came out, I got revitalized and use it ever since; and got many of my friends on it including my son and two daughters. It works!
Then I read the Ultimate Iso Manual but could not afford the isochain. Now I reread it and the new Isomax ebooks and no matter the cost I bought the Isomax. BOY, AM I HAPPY!!!! It works like crazy.
I do the Promethean for 2.5 weeks now and from the very first training I have muscles, tendons, ligaments, areas working and waking up in my body that were asleep for ages (I feel). I am already stronger than 2.5 weeks ago and my posture is more athletic looking, my energy level increased, and so on.
I could write a lot but let me rather thank Master Wade and the ENTIRE Dragondoor Team! You are bringing the true technology and knowledge of exercise back to life on Earth! I do not know anyone else doing it like You do!
As for the Isomax and iso training... I am spreading the word and will get all my family and friends on it!!!
This has changed my strength top to bottom. All of my other workouts have increased now. It is definitely a game changer.
I am 60 years old and suffering the ravages of long COVID for the past two years. It has had a devastating effect upon my life, robbing me of health, strength and vitality, I have been very physically fit and healthy all my life sadly COVID changed this leaving me with extreme fatigue and weakness, there?s no warning with the onset of the fatigue,
I drag my ass through the day at about 65% of my pre-covid capacity and without any decline or fade my physical capacity literally falls off of the cliff and I am left nearly incapacitated. This has had a massive impact on my working and personal life, I have tried many things to improve the situation and continue to push forward.
In September 2023 I read an article on the effectiveness of isometrics in the treatment of chronic fatigue, pain and CNS. Intrigued and encouraged by this article I dug out my old Bullworker that I've had for the past 50 years and I started working with it again to see if it would help in any way, the results were encouraging and I started to get some pep back and regain some tone and strength.
I continued to search for more information and in the course of doing so stumbled across the IsoMax I was immediately impressed by the product and the concept but was unable to come up with the funds to get one, especially as here in the Uk we need to add tax, import charge, courier and customs handling charges!
I then found Coach Paul Wade's excellent The Ultimate Isometrics Manual on the kindle device, I bought the book and devoured it several times over. That was it. I was sold. I had to get an IsoMax.
So in November I bit the bullet and placed the order, a few days later I had my isoMax!! I was over the moon.
I started training with it. The Prometheus was my starting point and I must say I loved chasing those beeps from the start!!!
I was however shocked at how weak I'd become:
Deadlift bottom position a mere 65kg
Shoulder Press bottom position 25kg
Biceps Curl bottom position 22kg
But this was a starting point, now here we are in April 2024 and my progress has been quite satisfactory. Same movements same position, they are as follows:
202kg
78kg
67kg
All for 6x6
My underlying condition still persists but I am over the moon with the progress I have made, I have had and am having a blast with this and feel a little of my old self coming back.
I cannot thank John and his team enough for this and I wholeheartedly recommend anyone to get themselves an IsoMax, worth every penny.
It has given me my life back. Thank you
Excellent Isometric Trainer. Additional training technique to weights.
Exercises your muscles differently than normal weights.
For those people like me who have never trained isometrically they stimulate your muscles without risk of injury. Isometrics strengthens muscle strength / endurance in different ways to weights.
Compact equipment. Digital strength readout during exercise.
Isometrics complements weight training.
Highly recommend Isomax.
On a 1 to 10 scale the Isomax rates an 11 for Isometric training with digital feedback.
I bought the IsoMax a while back and the IsoChain (older version) previous to that, and both are top-notch, state-of-the-art isometrics exercise equipment that I use regularly. I'm finding that I'm able to easily and efficiently do progressive overloading with this equipment and it has been working really well.
Recently ran into an issue with my IsoChain and customer service responded the next day with a replacement order free of charge, amazing customer service!!! I've been recommending this to all my cousins and friends. Also, be sure to get the book it's really good and helpful.
The best isometric training device on the market . It allows performing all kind of exercise applying maximal intensity . Then another important aspect is the methodological support regarding training techniques and programs . Get one and your training will improve in quality and results . Carlos
I have been working out for over 30 years and experimented with isometrics on and off for the last 5 years along with dynamic strength training..I knew isometrics worked, but without any feedback, it was tough to stay motivated,
I purchased the Isochain almost a year ago and all of a sudden, isometrics make up 90% of my training nowadays...why? Because of tangible, accurate feedback built into the bar..progressive overload is key to strength and muscle building, but I had no idea if I was progressing or not without the digital feedback..the Isochain changed all that !
I preordered the Isomax when it was announced...I didn't need it and wondered if I was wasting money having 2 similar devices...Nope !
I actually use both..I have the Isochain set up up for certain exercises and the Isomax for others, side by side..very quick transition from one exercise to another.
Like others have mentioned , the Isomax is an improvement in some ways over the Isochain, but you can't go wrong with either.
BTW...just a shout out to the company in general. The customer service is top notch and was surprised that whenever I had a question, John Du Cane himself would answer me..What company does that? Everything about the company and the equipment is top of the line!
I love my IsoMax. I am 55, I had the normal aches and pains you would expect for someone my age. Back, knee and tricep tendonitis. I have been using the IsoMax for 4 months, my aches and pains have faded to nothing. My blood pressure has also improved and i have effortlessly gained muscle.
And i am only using it 2x per week, some weeks i throw in some bodyweight exercises but only if I feel like it.
This machine is well worth the money, it will last you a long time. Also, the battery life of the handle is ridiculous. In 4 months it has only dropped 1/3. The IsoMax will be the foundation of my strength training for the foreseeable future.
I've been using the Isomax and Isochain for the main part of my training for the past two years. I've had great success improving my strength carrying over to daily life. I was very happy when the products got released with a way to quantify the force you're putting out.
I found isometrics over thirteen years ago and started with a cam buckle strap and handles. I find isometrics the most efficient and effective way of training and they come in great when life gets busy. I also consider them an amplifier when combined with other forms of training. When I incorporate them everything improves at a much faster rate.
I bought the original Isochain and absolutely loved it. The IsoMax is a major improvement. The new base makes the whole setup more portable, quieter and provides more angles to work from.
The strap is much easier to work with than the chain. The handle also feels sturdy and beefier than the original.
All in all, I love working out on this.
I was an early adopter of the Isochain and pulled the trigger and ordered the Isomax almost as soon as I was notified about it. I'd dabbled in isometrics decades ago but never stuck with it, despite reading about its benefits. The lack of feedback was the problem. The Isochain changed that, the Load and Timer modes in particular make progressive resistance isometrics a practical reality.
Yet the Isomax makes some great improvements on the original, including:
* a sturdier bar with a re-chargeable battery
* a strap with numbered slots rather than the noisy chain and spring, so changing angles or switching position is much faster, so workouts are more time-efficient
* a polymer baseplate that is lighter than the Isochain metal plate and that doubles as a resistance band platform
These changes are going to make the Isochain a great tool for many more folks, including those who might not be into the old school bar and chain of the Isochain. But the core of both devices is the same, permitting people to perform isometric training and KNOW how much force they're generating and for how long and permitting people to set resistance goals just as one would with free weights. Isometric training that is genuinely progressive.
Now, a couple of tiny quibbles...the numbering of the slots is only on one side of the strap, it would be better on both. Also, the first time I used the Isomax in a not-so-well lit room, I noticed the lwhite ettering on the bar is hard to see (that was less of a problem with the black lettering on white background of the Isochain bar). This isn't a big problem, I have the different buttons memorized, but subsequent models should use brighter white ink. Honestly, very minor complaints on a stellar product.
Online I've seen some folks question the price of the Isomax & Isochain. Everyone has to make their own decision with respect to something like that. For my part, realizing the great benefits of isometric training, I think it's worth it--to get the kind of feedback that lets you make that training a part of a progressive regimen & to have a clear idea of just how much force you're generating for a given exercise at a given angle. It's money well spent.
As a family man I find workouts are best undertaken early in the morning. With a 5 AM start, I'm done before the kids and wife wake up. I've cultivated a self-imposed LUNK alarm in my basement gym to keep the volume down. I added rubber spacers to my adjustable dumbbells to reduce noise. Once in a while I drop some weights and get the breakfast stink eye.
I always admired the ISOCHAIN, having experimented with homemade isometric setups, but the chain looked too LOUD. When the handle was offered standalone, I ordered one. I used some climbing gear and my UHMW band plate to rig it up, and it worked great! It's a solid and durable piece of equipment. Most importantly, I can mute it, so my workouts are SILENT (spare some heavy breathing). I track my MAX and AVG a few times a week, in conjunction with weight training. I find that isometrics, coupled with the data provided by the ISOCHAIN and high rep dumbbell hypertrophy work, are my happy place!
The ISOMAX is a luxury version of the ISOCHAIN. With my daisy chain setup, I wasted time counting links and not having links in the right place. The ISOMAX chain allows for much finer increments. You can start in exactly the position you want. Stay consistent in your measurements. The material is heavy duty and the numbers make setup SO quick. The baseplate is equally impressive; it's easily the lightest plate I've owned, yet is incredibly strong. No worries exerting maximum force on it, which is important for isometrics. Finally, the rechargeable handle is uber accurate, solid and aesthetically pleasing. And it can be muted, allowing you to train silently.
The isomax is one of the most versatile and best training devices.
The new platform and strap are a gamechanger. You can use the base plate for the isomax but also for band training which makes it so much better.
If you are interested in isometric training you need the isomax and with the new baseplate and strap you can finally do the bench press.
I have been doing strength training , in one form or another, since the mid-1970s. I'm old enough to remember Bob Hoffman's original book on the value of isometric training. I enthusiastically bought the ISO Chain when it debuted and used it on max lift days to avoid possible injury returning the weight to the floor. I love using the ISoChain even if it is clunky and sounds a bit like Jacob Marleys ghost. I bought fingernail polish to mark the chain links I needed for various lifts. Small price to pay for quick, safe, strenuous workouts.
The IsoMax is a great improvement- it's easier to use, silent in operation, and comes with gradations marked on the strap, so, no makeup required. The new design just makes it easier to do isometric training. The warmup bands are a nice added feature, as doing isometrics without warmups is a decidedly bad idea. I have three artificial joints and yet I have no fear going full focus on timed lifts with the IsoMax. Congratulations to you on a great device and thank you for addressing the feedback you received on the IsoChain to produce this new and improved isometric device.
Received my IsoMax yesterday afternoon. I used it last night and love it. So much easier to use than my IsoChain, which Iis great by the way, but just not as clunky. Thanks for making a great product even better.
I got mine on sale with the pre order. This makes isometrics something you'll actually incorporate into your training. Progressive overload is measurable and, like in my case, great for injuries. Only had it a month or so but seems well built. Easy to use. I would recommend and purchase again.
I'm on my second week of using my new IsoMax. I prefer it over the IsoChain. It is easier to move and adjust. I'm glad that the speakers in the new handle is louder than the standard handle on the IsoChain. Before, I would sometimes miss the beeps due to surrounding sounds. I'm thrilled with the lack of rattling chains. Okay, at Halloween I might miss them. I find the base of the IsoMax feels more stable than the steel base of the IsoChain. If you don't own one of these devices, I would recommend going with the IsoMax. If you own an IsoChain, should you upgrade to the IsoMax. There is not a lot of difference in the exercises you can do. The IsoMax is more plesant to use. If things are tight financially, wait. If you've got the coin to spare, upgrade that sucker!
This device is a game changer! Previously, I never found isometrics to be enjoyable or satisfying. Having the digital readout advice makes this fun and more worthwhile to use! I look forward to checking back in a a few month to report gains in strength and size. At this rate, I highly recommend this product.
I do yoga, boxing workouts, some lifting, and I do a bunch of stuff on a WBV platform. I'm using the IsoMax right on top of the WBV platform. Have only worked out with it three times in the three days that I've had it and find an increased, immediate overall body strength and enhanced posture. Easy to use, easy to change the positions, and so good I can't wait to use it again tomorrow...add it to your routines...you need to...it's very excellent.
The Isomax is the best isometric or static training device out there combining effectiveness and cost. Nothing I'm aware of comes close. Great tool to build muscle and bone strength. Can be used anywhere and takes up little space. Great item!
Pros: compact, lightweight, portable, easy to use, effective in developing max strength, my routine is only 30min twice a week at home
Cons: up-front cost (though cheaper than a gym after a year)
Bonus: Hire an online coach from NoLimitSquad on Youtube - unless you have a workout partner already.
Have not used it much yet, but I am impressed with the quality.
It is extreme solid, and the display is quick an accurate.
